Weekly Fitness Tip

Dumbbell Rows!

Rows shred the back muscles, working the muscles from your lower back to your upper back. Working the muscles in your back corrects and maintains the correct posture your body needs throughout life. While rows are an important exercise to incorporate into your workout routine, the form of dumbbell rows is even more important. The correct form for dumbbell rows is:

  1. Maintain a neutral spine for the duration of the exercise.

  2. Hinge at the hips.

  3. Push the butt back.

  4. Bend the knees slightly.

  5. Lifting the dumbbells, first bring the shoulder blades together.

  6. Then bring the dumbbells and knuckles to your hip bone, instead of to your chest. At the top of the row, your elbow should form a 90-degree angle (a perfect corner of a square).

  7. When you release, maintain your neutral spine and completely straighten your elbows to come to the bottom of your row.

Dumbbell rows are a back exercise. You will feel tightness and a sore feeling in your back. Reminder, you know your body and you know when it is time to stop. Listen to your body and never do something you are uncomfortable with.

Let's shred some backs!
